Feed Back for My Website?

I'd like ot know what you thought of the design of my website. www.townofgilbert.org. It's for a small town in South Carolina, and I only do it because I want to, and the residents like it. Is there anything I should add, change, remove? Do you like the colors and the Layout? Is it appealing overall?
How about Navigation?

The images on your home page are quite large:

http://www.townofgilbert.org/images/School/High/SharieCato2005.jpg is 720x924, for example, and over 150 KB. Your HTML asks our web browsers to reduce it to 132x169 when we view it on your home page, but it still wastes a huge amount of bandwidth.

The other image on your home page is even larger, 1744x1360 and about 600 KB. Neither of those images should be larger than 20 KB.

You need to use your image editor to:

(1) resize each image to the exact size you want it to appear on your site, and

(2) use JPEG compression to optimize the images to an appropriate file size.

As it is, dial-up users may just give up and hit the Back button rather than wait for the images to appear.

it looks like the town is a small cheerful town, but the colors of the site do not reflect this. maybe try more of a pastel palette. it looks like it is probably fairly inclusive it does't look like you are missing much. I see you have a poll already asking what else the people may want. the layout is nice. I personally am not a fan on animated gif's they make things seem cheesy. the scrolling text is ok but I usually try to reserve it for headlines. overall I would say that if the people who utilize it are happy with It I would do what they want.

it's somewhat early 90s style, but that gives me a warm fuzzy feeling :) honestly, it's clean and easy to use, maybe try some happier background color.

Here are my honest thoughts

1. Loads fast
2. Color scheme is bad. Hate the black. Depressing.
3. Scrolling text at top is kinda '80's. Makes site look old and dated.
4. Everything blurs together. Need to make sections more defined, individual, and navigation is all cluttered.
5. Like craigslist - add a local classified section. Babysitters, lawnmowers, snow shovlers, etc.
